Our client is seeking a Permanent Senior Estimator to join their social housing maintenance team based in Birmingham, West Midlands. The successful candidate will play a vital role in assisting the Regional Commercial Director and Regional Refurbishment Director with the vetting of bid documentation and estimating activities. This role involves conducting detailed site visits to understand the scope, scale, and potential risks associated with upcoming projects, as well as reviewing Invitation to Tender (ITT) documents critically. You will liaise with various departments and consultants to gather all necessary information, prepare supplier and sub-contractor enquiries, and produce quantities to help accurately price schemes. The Senior Estimator will provide timely and precise estimates, utilise the Evaluate estimating system effectively, and ensure that subcontract enquiries are clear, accurate, and thoroughly assessed. An essential part of the role is to maintain an up-to-date cost database by regularly reviewing market prices with the post-contract teams and to assess commercial and operational risks associated with each tender. Active participation in adjudication meetings and the pursuit of subcontract quotations are key responsibilities, along with providing detailed comparison analyses to support bid decisions.
- Proven experience as an Estimator, preferably within the social housing or refurbishment sectors
- Competence in carrying out site visits for project assessment
- Strong understanding of ITT document analysis and bid preparation
- Ability to liaise effectively with internal departments and external consultants
- Experience in producing quantities for building works and assessing market prices
- Knowledge of evaluating commercial and operational risks involved in tenders
- Competence in using estimating systems, particularly Evaluate
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving
